Our story

A little workshop, making little worlds.

A child's room styled with the Birchnook Woodland set

Some of the best parts of childhood are the smallest. The corner of a room where a whole world feels possible. The animals on the wall that are the last thing they see at night, and the first thing in the morning. We started Birchnook because we believe those little worlds deserve to be made of something real.

It began in 2015, in a small workshop in Warsaw, with a single sheet of birch plywood and a simple wish — to make the kind of thing a family keeps. Not plastic. Not a screen. Not a decal that peels by spring. Something cut, printed, and sanded by hand: warm to the touch, and built to outlast the nursery years.

Every set still passes through our hands here in Warsaw. We choose real birch for its honest, pale grain. We print with a gentle, non-toxic finish, because little hands touch everything. And we sand each edge smooth, because the pieces a child grows up with should feel as good as they look.

“Ten years on, these designs are loved by 500+ families — and now, they’re coming to yours.”

Meet the maker

Karolina, in Warsaw

Birchnook is the work of Karolina, who has shaped wood in her Warsaw workshop since 2015. She’s always been drawn to the same thing — making objects that hold a feeling, and that are made with a real person in mind rather than pulled off a shelf.
